The Gift of Reading
December 17, 2015
“We have an obligation to read aloud to our children. To read them things they enjoy. To read to them stories we are already tired of. To do the voices, to make it interesting, and not to stop reading to them just because they learn to read themselves." -Neil Gaiman, author.
The season of giving is here; it’s everywhere we look! We are feeling and thinking how grateful we are for the REAL gifts we give and receive. The gift of a book each month for a small child, the joy that both adult and child experience when reading together – these are some of the most significant and impactful ways we can make a lasting impression on the children of Tennessee through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Imagination Library is available to all children birth to age 5 in all 95 Tennessee counties. Thanks to our amazing public-private partnership, we have mailed 24.8 million books!
Now is the perfect time to join us in making this gift to the children of Tennessee. Make a donation in honor of someone on your holiday list and give the gift of reading this holiday season. A gift of just $12 covers the cost of books for one child for a year. A gift of $60 covers the cost of one child for 5 years. That is one book a month for five years and a library of 60 books when the child "graduates" from the program. This is a great way to give a gift that honors a teacher, caring adult or family member. You can designate a county when making your donation so your gift will assist that local Imagination Library.
By making a gift to the Imagination Library of Tennessee, you are not only giving the gift of reading this holiday season, you are spreading awareness about early reading and the importance of exposing children to books before they enter kindergarten. The Imagination Library program is building better readers and preparing children to succeed in school.
Thank you for your support, and we wish you and yours a very happy holiday season and a Wonderful New Year!
